I am new to this and I think my articles are too short (300 words max).

Some good sites seem to have 300-700 word articles.

How long are your articles?

Last one I wrote was 547 words. But, an article needs to be long enough to cover the topic and no longer. If you're just adding words to rack up the word count you're wasting your reader's time.

Write until you cover the topic thoroughly. Then get rid of the words that aren't doing any work.

I have some articles that are shorties - 300 words or less.

I also have some that are in-depth - thousands of words, and even that length means I've skimmed off some of the content.

Another voice for letting the subject guide the length ... except that I'd be aware of layout issues and make sure that the important stuff gets put above the fold.
