Doc Searles [doc.weblogs.com], co-author of The Cluetrain Manifesto, has used his blog to champion a new possibility in content rights management: a Public Domain dedication [doc.weblogs.com] -- see entry #2, The Whatever License.

It's an interesting and idealistic choice that some content creators might consider, just to establish themselves, if nothing else. I know we're all attentive to copyright abuse, but sometimes the worst fate that our content can meet is that no one ever sees it.

At any rate, this is blog content rights management stuff for now. But the idea of sending your content out into the world with a guarantee that no one should profit from it, not ever -- now that's radical.

I can see key content continuing to be re-deployed by those that hold no respect for Intellectual Property.

Surely, we already have this type of content availability with new musicians freely distributing their material.
