My boss said that H2-H6 headers are not important as far as SEO is concerned and I have no frame of referance, being new to the SEO world. Now my argument is if that was true then why the hell don't we just use the H1 all the time and do away with the others. I know I must be right can anyone just give me an explanation why they are important so I can prove my point once and for all.

Thanks everyone:)

Hi Skylo,

Yes, the <h1> tag and its cousins <h2> <h3>, when used as it is intended, is helpful in SEO.

Don't just put all your content between <h1> tags though. Use it for real page headings.

And, just because somthing isn't good for SEO doesn't mean you shouldn't use it.

Pages marked up with care and attention to the semantics important to good design of html are easier to read and may well be easier for SE's as well as users.
