When you have over say 100 articles your main www folder tends to start looking a bit cluttered.

What do most people tend to do.

Have a main articles folder and store them there?

Hi

Yes the best way to organise your site and ftp is to divide your server into manageable folders such as Articles, News etc. This solves the problem of clutter.

From an SEO standpoint, if rankings and traffic are good, I wouldn't reorganize the site for the sake of neatness. You are likely to experience a falloff in traffic at least temporarily.

You might consider grouping your articles in theme folders, e.g., widgets.com/restoring/, /buying/, /selling/, etc.

I don't see a problem with having them all in one directory. How big do you think you can get? I have a site with 780 articles all in one directory, and search engines love them. Right off the main domain, descriptive URLs. Yes it looks a bit messy in FTP but who sees that but you? You might want to add a tagging system if only for you to be able to find your own stuff easily.

You are likely to experience a falloff in traffic at least temporarily.

If the proper redirects (301) are implemented, there shouldn't be any drop off. But make sure to not do unnecessary directories. The deeper your directory structure the higher your PR will need to be in order for them to be crawled.

For example you don't want to have...
