I just opened a blog about news on a cetrain thing. I did some searches and found couple interesting articles online. Can i copy and paste them in my blog? do i just credit whoever wrote them? I see thousands of others bloggers doing this but is it legal? Some of the articles that i found say this at the end of it:

"All Rights Reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed."

No, you can not cut and paste the entire article. Others may be doing it, but they either have permission, or are risking getting in trouble for copyright infringement.

You can either seek permission to use the article, or quote a brief snippet of it, with a link to the source.

Quite a problem for the sites that actually pay for news wires. It does seem very common among bloggers, I noted we took on a new writer for a column (previously she had ran her own blog) and first column came through with an entire AP article included, which I had to remove and put a link to.

I guess just part of the culture, I sure wish I could quote wires verboten without spending thousands per month. :-)

In fact we are launching a bunch of blogs within our main site so that the bloggers can quote whatever they like, though just from the wires we publish.

Even when I ran a non-commercial fan site we used to just quote little bits here and there...saves any problems.
