Hi there,

If you give reprint right's of your article, and it appears on numerous sites. Let's say it has the same content then how do you deal with the duplicate content issues.

Don't put it on any sites you own. Problem solved.

Let those other guys worry about that.

So it means that using articles to add content in my site is a no-no? not advisable?

If you simply copy articles from other sites, especially without permission, its a definite no-no.
That is considered copyright infringement in most cases.
Google and other engines may see you as a scraper, and your copied pages might "go supplemental."

Frankly, if you MUST go black-hat, keyword stuffing is safer.
Hardly anyone seems to get penalized for that. -LH

I certainly don't see it as black hat. (I'm guessing larryhatch misread the OP. Or was that just a response to mmontala?) It's perfectly legal, since you (the OP) still own the copyrights and have just given other sites permission to use the articles.

But I have seen it suggested in several threads here that it's better to have certain articles you put on your own site and other articles that you give permission to other sites to use. They wouldn't necessarily have to be about totally different subject matter, but have enough difference in the ways they're worded or in their tone to not be picked up as duplicate content. Then, as VegasRook said, you can let the other sites worry about that.

I don't have any personal experience or research to offer - just the fact that I've read it here.

I believe the original poster is asking "if my original content is syndicated on other sites, will this hurt me for having duplicate content?"

The best solution to this problem is to provide similar, but not identical content to your syndicate. Create a slightly different article (perhaps an abridged one, or one with a different opening paragraph).

Or, ask yourself what the longterm benefit of syndication is. Are you making money from the syndication? Or is it just a marketing effort? If it is the latter, try creating entirely separate content, with attribution to your URL, of course, for your syndicated content.

I just wonder how eZine publishers get away with publishing copies of the same articles? If the problem of duplicate content is as severe, why aren't they removed from google index? Or they are in some privileged position?

They wouldn't be removed, they'd just rank lower than if they had added the same amount of unique content. It's not like a "banning offence" - the duplicate content just doesn't carry the same weight as unique content would. It's only a big issue if you're trying to have the best SEO possible.
