Why do you write?

Simple question: Why do you write?

I write because I want to make the world a little better.

I write to defend or advocate for others.

I write because I have something to say.

I write because I like to see people laugh or smile, so if possible I write to make people laugh.

I write to help or to enable people: To clarify, make something complex simple, to teach so that people can do things for themselves, be safer, maybe even happier.

I write as an expression of love: I love this world, the possibilities and beauty of it. I write because I remain hopeful that we all might just somehow manage to get along without killing or hating each other, or allowing needless suffering to persist, or that we might manage our ecosystem in such a way that equilibrium is maintained without having to suffer through global cataclysms.

I write because when I write I am. I am myself. I create myself. I express myself. Some part of me reaches out to the world and possibly touches the world, and maybe a small ripple spreads.

Why do you write?

To help me go to sleep at night (mostly morning).

To stop my racing thoughts. (NASCAR, anyone?)

I write emails because they're easy.

I write IM's when I'm bored.

I write because it is currently one of the most powerful methods at my disposal of helping my fellow man, and by extension helping myself.

I don't claim to be a writer, but I write to my community forum to entice folks with my background to record for prosperity what has gone before - nostalgia is such a magnet. So I write to extract anecdotes that would be otherwise lost.
