Open-source software for online photo catalogue

How can online media easily manage their photo archive?

Hi,
Our website will be a small online news. We are looking for some open-source software for online cataloguing of our photos, where our photographers will upload, describe and tag their shots, and our editors will be able to search through the archive and take out photos for publishing.

In principle, we would like to have something like our own flickr.com. Or something like a stock photo website, without the public access (backend without frontend).

Can you recommend software for this (preferably based around mysql+php)? Thank you.

Check out gallery (search for "menalto gallery" on google). You should be able to do everything you want with private galleries, and it runs on php/mysql.
