RSS Feeds and Duplicate content

Hi,

On my site I have a RSS feed <b><u>from</u></b> another site.

This means that my site can show new content every day without too much effort on my part.

However, this RSS feed is available to everyone. If someone else has the same feed on their site, does this count as duplicate content to a search engine?

Am I in danger of having my site blacklisted because the same content can be found in more than one place on the web?

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Thank you

Mandy

Hi,

No, that's not to be considered as duplicate content. I was also wondering about that, so I did a research on the subject. What I've concluded is that RSS feeds as off site content and relevant to one's own site, or a section of one's site, are not supposed to be duplicate content in SE eyes. At the same time what I've also came to know is that RSS feed does not contribute to SEO yet. However it's already another point.

If you have a page that consists of a rendering of an RSS feed from another site - and 10 other sites also have pages based on that feed - then to the SEs it looks like duplicate content. A php/asp/html page is just a page whether it's based on an RSS feed or not.

But duplicate content doesn't often mean being blacklisted (look at all the DMOZ clones) - but Google may bury your duplicate page in the results.

Actually, while one just adds, so to say, introducing paragraphs in his or her feed located within a specified section of their site with outbound links to the original source, that's not expected to be perceived by SE no more than that, proper. But in its turn, that'll greatly contribute to optimizing one's site content without many efforts and thus is worth considering to add it.
