Hi all,

As suggested started reading this below post.

Kind of what I'm looking for in referance to nuts and bolts.

[webmasterworld.com...]

The first step is building content.

What exactly does building content mean and involve?

And what is the referance to building a 100 page site?

Could someone give me an example of what content is?

Thanks!

Marc

To maybe give you a better understanding I have an Advertising Specialties(products with your company name and logo on them) business that I want to try to promote on the internet.

If content is writing articles I can definately do that.

Again not sure what building content is.

content is what your user is going to read when they come to your site.
so if its about widgets, write pages about red widgets, blue widdgets, cheap widgets, small widgets, big widgets etc.
so if you can write articles as you say you can, then, they are good places to start with content.
building content simply means adding more content driven pages to your site.

hope this clears a bit up.

First, there's is content, and then there's unique content. The unique content is what you're looking for. It's what will make your site stand out from all the rest offering the same or similar products and/or services.

Unique content could come in the form of articles, but it could just as easily come in the form of product and/or service descriptions.

Thanks guys.

If content can be in the form of articles how can articles be applied to my website?

I'm starting from scratch to build my advertising specialties site.

So far I have a homepage, about me page and a product page sort of sketched out.

If it helps my homepage is going to have a picture of myself briefly explain.

My About Me page I want to kind of make it really personall. Let people know about me, my hobbies, interests and family. Would like to include link to my picture album at picturetrail.com. A reason I think a personal page is necessasry is because people will do business with those they know, like and trust. That's what I want to accomplish with my personal page.

My product page is a page that the company I represent provides all the dealers. With a search engine that is provided. If you would like to see the link to give you a better understanding, I'll be more than willing to post it.

An "About Me" page is okay, but for a business site it's best not to make it the main page, but one people can navigate to if they want. Not everyone wants to be up close and personal with someone they're buying something from; a lot of web surfers are looking for "just the facts," and want to see them fast. And, unless your main competition comes from other dealers for the same company, remember that your visitors also need to know they can trust the company you're representing.

I'm not sure I understand your description of the product page. Is this page supplied in a completed format by the company, or do they supply the info and images and you set up the pages? If the former, it'll be a lot harder for you to add content. Things like product reviews, ideas of what kind of widget is best for what specific situation, etc., would be content that's often included on a product page.

Even in that case, you could add pages with short articles. Let visitors see that you know something about what you're selling. Give suggestions on how they could be used. Why they should buy from you (better widgets, faster customer service, etc.). If you pick up testimonials or "success stories" regarding how your products helped someone, you can add those as you go along, and announce any new products as soon as they're available - Adding new content regularly is a good thing for SEO, as is making your important keywords a natural part of the content you write.

Even with good articles, don't let them overwhelm the people who want to just look at your products and prices. Give good, clear navigation so those who are looking for more info can find it.

If your site is about widgets ... content is:

  • About our widgets: Green, Blue, Black & other widgets
  • Widget prices
  • Undertanding Widgets and what they do
  • How widgets are built
  • Pictures of widgets
  • Widget Resources
  • Building your own widgets

    Get the idea?
