Instead, the real competition these days is Wikipedia. It's not even that they copy or repackage information from existing sites like About.com. The real problem is that sites like this tend to have already covered any topic of interest my sites could cover.
Although we aim for well written quality contents, there is one thing where we really cannot compete - size and breadth of material. There is just too much to compete with. And often, it is very good. Worse, is I've even found myself drawn to adding important info to Wikipedia, where in theory, I should post it on my sites. Haven't submitted anything yet, but it's tempting.
It feels like everybody is on the contents' bandwagon these days...
What's a small site owner to do?
