PHP Nuke? Good or Bad?

i was about to install php nuke on my site and was requesting help from my web server about its installation. however, they mentioned that it was very buggy and they would not recommend it, much less install it for me. however, i used it before on a different computer and i found it very usefriendly.

so is it php nuke really that buggy? if so, what would be another cms that is as easy to use? like everything being wysiwyg kinda thing? is mambo like that?

I have always heard that postnuke was more stable/secure. you might look into that as well..

I'm using Mambo on some of my sites, it is not wysiwyg from the beginning when it comes to text formating (everything else is though). But it's easy to come around using CSS or just install one of those plugin HTML editors.

I feel that PHPNuke is more scalable and more customizable than Mambo. Mambo has a certain structure of things and if you aren't happy about it there isn't much you can do. It's still great though, there are a number of 3rd party applications out there for Mambo as well. Doing your own templates is also pretty easy.

Last time I checked PHPNuke charged a nominal fee (compared to what other CMS charge) for using the program. Mambo does not do that, at least not yet.

FWIW - A few days ago I got an email from my host listing several programs that have been exploited a lot lately, and php-nuke was one of them. The host didn't say not to use it, but to make sure that you're using the most updated version.

I'm also looking into PHP-NUKE and wondering if its it seachengine friendly. Are postings easily indexed by Google ect.

by the way I love php nuke, it is a very common cms and its free so lots of people can look at the source and hack it, thats why you get so many exploits on it. I have never been hacked ( maybe just lucky) . I only have small sites so I probably stay under the radar of hackers...... PHP Nuke is great because it is easy to use and customize and there are 1000s of other webmasters using it and writhing free add ons and tutorials. there are lots of free security add ons, I use NukeSentinel.
