Hello,

I have a hobby/hobby news website. In my articles I used various pictures I found on the internet. Below each picture I have written the name of the individual who took the picture. Whould be better if I write "copyright Name Of The Person"?
Is using pictures found on the net, and giving proper credit,a copyright infrigment?

Yes. Unless you have an explicit license in writing from the copyright owner, you are in infringment of their rights.

I suggest you study up on DMCA reports and also hire a lawyer as you're likely to be receiving a flood of them.

Many photos are licensed for specific use on websites. That is how many photographers earn a living. The problem is that many think the web is all about free and that if they see something used in one place or another, then it fair use and thus fair game. Not true. You should remove the pictures ASAP, then ask permission.

Many thanks for your answers.
The pictures I use are astronomy-related (galaxies, nebulae, etc). Some are public domain (like NASA pics) and others (most) are from obsesrvatories. The credids are somethnig like AURA/NOAO/NSF :)
I use just very few pictures taken by individuals. I will write to all of them asking for permissions.
Again thanks for your answers.

I would recommend taking your copies down before asking permission. Otherwise, when the owners stop by your site to see who you are, they may come to the conclusion that you're "only asking 'cause ya got caught". Show good faith by not having them up before the owners say "yes".

I would also wait till they disappear from Google's cache.
