Copying content

from my manufacture

Hello,

I was wondering if I built a website and implemented most of my manufactures text, and some of my own content. Will I be penalized by SE for copying my manufactures website text? BTW my manufacture ranks about 2-7 on all SE's. My website has a lot of their same text but its all mixed up, (mine is way better) and really user friendly, easy to navigate.

I suggest you read your employment contract.

There is probably a section in there about "plagurism" and "everything you do for us is copyright to us - not you" etc

I think copying your employer's website may well find you as an ex-employee!

I think you misunderstood what he was asking.. I think it's the maker of what he selss, not his employer he wants to copy..

That said, call them and ask them first.. Most manufacturers are happy just to have their names out there, but they may not be too thrilled with you lifting content without permission fist..

As for a penalty in the SEs, I guess it would depend o just how much you copy and how much you change..

Most manufacturers provide a stock description and sales pitch, and they do not mind that you use it. They might mind if you are copying beyond that stock sales pitch, so get permission.

To avoid the duplicate content issue, take the facts from their text and rewrite it as your own copy. You could easily take their standard blurb and make a <ul> out of it. Go see what others write about the product, and get ideas from them (but do not copy them).

I spoke with the maufacture and they had no problem with me copying ALL of their text, and pictures. My question was if SE's will look down on my site if i have too much of the same info on my site as my manufactures.
