Copyright registration?!

We've been working on a fairly large website project over the last couple of months and we're going to publish it by the end of this year. I've been wondering, if we file a copyright protection in the EU, would that only be valid within the EU or would it also be valid in the US? Or do we have to file a seperate copyright protection overseas?

It should be valid in any country that's agreed to the international copyright treaties (signers of the Berne Convention, etc.)
