Stealing and translating

Is there a problem of people stealing your content, translating it to another language and then publishing it elsewhere? I found someone in a forum discussing how much they liked my idea and were developing a similar site. I had to translate it from another language. I wonder how much that happens. How would you ever know?

I'm sure that it happens, but I have to wonder how much of a real issue it is when it does happen.

My sites are all in english, and published in the United states. I have no intention of ever publishing any translations. There might be a couple of people in the world that they might keep away from my site, but very few.

If someone translates one of my sites, it will almost certainly be someone in another country. It would be their country's laws about deriviative works that would apply.

Basically, I just don't think it is worth losing sleep over unless you have plans to become multi-national and produce your site in several different languages.

I have been toying with the idea of translating all of my content into another language, Spanish to start, then German, French, etc. That is one way of multiplying your content. If it is successful in English it should be the same in Spanish. Anybody tried this?
