Hi

I am developing a new content site. I have few pages of original content ( I wrote it w/o internet help).

But for more pages in this area I need to read documents from the internet and REWRIE the content in my own presentation style.

Is it duplicate content?

Will google punish me for this?

If you rewrite it, it won’t be duplicate content for search engines. But, I must say, you won’t add anything new for the reader.

Unless you simplify it and put it in lay man's terms ;)

Somthing you _could_ do:

Select one topic at a time. Search up various articles on that topic, select the best ones.
Read all of them and condense them into a single article that you write yourself, in your own words.
This makes it unique in a way, even though you relied on others' work.
Be sure to credit the sources in a footnote. The better ones deserve at least a small link.

This could be a contribution to the web, simplifying a topic for the benefit of the readers.

Sure it takes time, nothing is for free. -Larry
