Wiki allows you to copy their text as long as you post the gnu licence message. I can't find anything about images they use though and would save me a lot of effort if I could hotlink - anyone know whether this is acceptable?

I certainly wouldn't do it. Why should the wiki people allow you to eat up their bandwidth like that?
I certainly don't allow people to hotlink to my images on my server. Why should you be allowed to do it to them?
