Hi all,

A word to everyone who has people ripping off their content or site design.

Take action - Don't let it be that easy for them or it can only get worse.

Over the past 3 months we have had 2 new sites come into competition with ours. Loved their sites, only because all the content came from our site.

We sent them cease and desist letters.
The 1st one changed their site, but did not reply to any of our letters/emails. fair enough, at least they didn't challenge us on it.

Second one was only sent out on Tuesday this week and we got an email response today. I was quite ammused as it looked like they were trying to say they didn't take it from us.

They replied that to avoid confusion they changed thes site, but wanted to be clear that this was an editorial decision and not a response to our "crude legal threat"

If thats not owning up to "nicking" content i don't know what is.

So, as i said. Do something, anything to protect your work and don't let other slackers get an easy ride on your back

Crude legal threats are the best kind! If you are lucky enough to get ripped off by a deep-pockets company, consider going beyond the C&D and demanding compensation. Glad it worked out, Wigsy.

Good for you! Just found out this week one of my clients had his web copy stolen, too. The thief was someone in a high prestige, highly respected, high-paying occupation, which just goes to show you that when it comes to unethical behavior, diplomas and credentials hanging on the wall don't mean a thing.

Making a DMCA complaint to Google can be quite useful too, especially if you can't get a response from the copiers and they're ranking decently in the SERPs.
