running qmailpop3d and vpopmail

I am using qmail. Now i have been ask to include virtual domain. Can i run both qmail-pop3d and vpopmail simultaneously on the same machine. I mean qmail-pop3d which system wide password “ /etc/passwd” and the vpopmail which will use cdb base password for mail authentication.

I bet you, dollars, to doughnuts, that you can't run both at the same time. I would put everything into the qmail/mysql/vpopmail/courier way of doing things, since I doubt there's a way to have both local auth and virtual-domain type auth (through vpopmail).

Actually, I wouldn't even be running QMail. I'd run postfix, but that's just MHO. ;)

If all you email is currently in mailbox format, there's some scripts to transfer mbox to MailDir formats, so transitioning email shouldn't be a problem in that respect.

If you need any help, please let me know... We've had a lot of experience (sadly), setting up QMail at our work.

What system is it running on? RedHat? FreeBSD? SCO? <grin>

I am running RH7.2. Actually i want local auth as well as virtual auth posssibilties on the same machine.
i am running Qmail with Maildir format
and wish to run virtual users with CDB auth

I'm not sure if you can do that... I'll have a look at courier imap's authlibs, and see if it can do both.

Actually, there is an excellent tutorial at [qmailrocks.com....] He even has all of the software packaged together and the tutorial implements a web gui to add virtual domains as well as Squirrelmail for web access.
