I heard one is newer, but is it better?

Hello everyone, I have been using Lilo for quite a while and am kinda getting used to all the various settings on it. Then, while using the ICQ IM I was told by a good friend that "Grub" is the new way to go.

Anyone got any view on this?

grub for awhile had a way better GUI for their OS lisings. While lilo seems to be advancing their gui as well. I like to use lilo because it has been the standard for a long time and I use it to configure my boot sector. I don't know if grub can do this, I don't see why it can't but you never know these days. You can use the regular Windows default OS listing rather than Lilo. You use lilo to get it but basically you issue a command in Linux that generates this file and then you stick it on your C drive and edit your boot.ini file and WALA it's there and you get boot Linux from there. Like I said I don't know if grub can do the same, I haven't tried it. Hope that helps.

From the perspective of one who who can't answer your question, yet has experienced Grub from the other end.

Whatever you decide on IcedCardeo, know that there is a lot of history here at WebmasterWorld concerning Grub [google.com]. :)

I prefer GRUB because it understands the ext2 filesystem. That is, if you can get as far into the boot process as a GRUB console, it's far easier to recover your system than with LILO (which required boot disks and many reboots)

Functionally, they're both the same. I see little reason to change for the sake of changing, but if you had the change (ie OS upgrade), may as well take it.
