Nightmare day, trying to install RH9 on an Seagate 80G 'Barracuda' (380011a)
Dies when starting to do any disk writes (transfering the install image to disk etc)...
Anything I can pass to the kernel at boot?
Many thanks..

Try 'ide=nodma'; good luck, I'm only guessing here.

Thanks, it got me a little further but it still seems to dislike the drive. So, couple of questions:
1. is there anything else I might try? 2. is there a list where i might find a distro that supports it?
Cheers Dukula!

I'd try fiddling with the BIOS to see if that disables the quirks mode...
Try looking on the kernel mailing lists by exact disk model and motherboard chipset. Also see if RH can use different kernel flavors to install.

Are you setting the drive parameters in the CMOS:
Type: User Type HDD Translation Method: Manual Cylinders: ## Heads: ## Sectors: ##
or using 'auto'?
Have had some problems using 'auto'

Sorry GGG, I don't have the faintest idea what you're talking about ;)

When the PC is first turned on (while it does its memory check), please the delete key. This should take you into the BIOS config screen (normally a textual menu).
The first option is normally where you specify the hard drive setup. What does IDE0 (I presume thats where you've installed the drive) say?
