I would like to know how I can make my printer port to be recognized by linux.

I need it because I would like to connect my redhat 9 to an other computer throught the printer port.

How do I do it?

lpt1 is more than likely /dev/lp0, though depending on your kernel it might be something else, too. Beyond that, all I know is that there are drivers for ppp over paralel ports. I've never actually done it. Heck, I think I've only set up modems for Linux twice.

<added>the driver name you're looking for is 'plip'</added>

No, I know at least one other thing. The printer driver will grab all the paralel ports at boot time and hold onto them unless you tell it not to. How you do that depends on whether the driver is compiled in or a loadable module, but it can keep the ppp over paralel driver from grabbing the port.
