Basically the whole installation is fine right down to where it's asking me to confirm my video card and monitor make. The installer chooses them correctly and as such I accept and reboot.
After the reboot and initial info we get into the "OK"'s that the OS is doing. Then at the end it pauses for a second, my monitor goes "click" and it turns off. My computer is still running and hasn't stopped as you'll still get that periodic hd light and what not.
So I've done a couple of different installs and found that when I choose a non X window type build I would get in fine cept this isn't the way I want to look at things.
The last time I tried this, right before it rebooted for it's initial run I saw this quickly on the screen...
"Unknown Error In - Select Monitor Type"
It's looking pretty obvious that there's something wrong with the relationship with my monitor and Linux but I'm not sure what I can do about it as I'm pretty new to this game. The actual monitor is new and works fine. Also I've tested my install disks and no problem there.
Anyways, my first post here in what looks like a great place to hang so hopefully I can get some help.
btw ..
Radeon 7000 and NEC MultiSync FE771SB are the suspects in this mess.
Can you boot into text mode? If so, try to log in as root and run the Xconfigue program (Xconfigurator?). Perhaps try an easy resolution first like 800x600 and see if you can scale up from there. It is likely that your resolution is set too high.
