apps as root in X

So every once in a while I'd like to use an X app while logged in as a user.

To do so I do the following as root:
rm ~/.Xauthority
cp /home/usr/.Xauthority ~/.Xauthority

Anybody doing something more elegant?

$ xhost +localhost
$ su
# export DISPLAY=:0
# command-you-wanted
