I just installed Mandrake 9 and I wondering how to install kazaa and instant messenger, if its possible. Or if there are any other p2p file transfer programs that support linux.

Search on the web there are many tutorials on how to install kazaa lite on Mandrake using a windows emulator, as for AIM do you want the same features as AIM because there are many chat clients for linux that connect to AIM or any other chat service.

I've seen a lot of good press on Gaim, but haven't used it. It's compatible with the popular instant messaging programs, along with a few I haven't heard of.

Have you looked at jabber.org...? Jabber is an open-source IM protocol. The clients can communicate via this, as well as AOL, MSN, Yahoo and IRC (and others)...

One big bonus is *all* contacts being held in one place. Handy if you need to switch computers a lot... Previousy used Gabber and now Psi (with a Gabber skin), and both are very good...

I don't think you will find Kazaa for Linux, but I may be wrong.

If you want a good file sharing system that is definitively free of spyware add-ons, have a look at BitTorrent. It doesn't have any search features built in, but it's probly one of the most efficient ones around, and being implemented in Python, it runs easily on all platforms.

On the messenger side, I have used Gaim for a long time now, and am perfectly happy with it.

for Debian:
# apt-get install bittorrent

For RPM-based distros:
http ://www.rpmfind.net/
search for bit torrent
find a package suitable for your particular distro and revision
download
# rpm -Uvh <filename.rpm>
Probably get bunches of errors about stuff it depends on
return to rpmfind.net to get the other stuff you need
lather, rinse, repeat ;)

I don't generally use p2p apps myself, but there are other open-source p2p apps that may be more similar to how Kazaa and such work. Bit Torrent has deffinite technical advantages, but I *think* its usefulness is somewhat different.
