I just ran across this thingy:
[hubbe.net...]

I use Linux on my desktop, but have a low end laptop that runs Win2k because it is useful to have a windows machine around. Running Linux is great, but every once in awhile, there is something I can't do such as check the google toolbar. This little thing lets me set the laptop next to my monitor and use it as an extended desktop from my linux machine. If I roll my mouse off the correct side of the screen, it transitions my input devices from Linux to windows or vice versa. Might be useful to a few of you

Its completely free and open source, so I am making a guess that it is ok to drop this url. I have no connection with this other than I now use it.

I haven't tried x2vnc yet, but I have tried other variations of the vnc server and client. They are all great so far.

I am currently looking at TightVNC [tightvnc.com], it is a vnc setup optimized for low bandwidth, and it is fully compatible with the regular vnc tools. Also GPL.
