i'm after a nice program like "windows commander" or "norton commander"
i've tried midnight commander which is very much a like to norton commander but would prefer a nicer looking interface... any suggestions?

I'm not even on Linux yet. But doing research for my eventual switch I came accross this:
emelfm.sourceforge.net
If you try it, let me know what you think.

emelfm is excellent
Not exactly the same as Windows Commander - but close enough for me.

emelfm rocks, You may want to also look at gentoo [obsession.se] (not the distribution but the file manager by the same name) Here is A good comparason [chuck.burkins.net], but getting dated. Midnight Commander (MC) is a very good text based file manager that you can work from shell, which is handy if you are doing work as root. There are dozens of choices (many have the 'commander' two plain design), I've played with most of them, the ones I use the most are emelfm and MC.
