Uploading .zip files via http post

I created a php script to upload large files. It is mainly used for uploading large plain text directory listings. Today someone uploaded a .zip file and it worked but you cant open the .zip file. It changed to file size from around 300k to about 750k and made it unreadable. Is there somethign I have to do to make this work? The server is a Redhat Linux 8.0 box with apache 2.0 and the latest vers of php and mysql.

Have you inspected the uploaded file with an editor to see if it has been encoded in some way.

Maybe you have seen in emails that some non-ascii characters are displayed as =XX, for example =0A for ascii 10, newline.

If for some reason the file has be subjected to some similar kind of binary to clear text encoding, that would explain the increase in size, including the order of magnitude of the increase.

Just a guess, though.
