I am running RH 8.0 as a web server and a spam filter/virus filter for e-mail. I have a bunch of stuff that RH wants me to update in up2date. I usually update everything but now I have an update for apache and the kernel. If I run the updator, will it mess with my httpd.conf file? Also, what are the risks with updating the kerel?

Thanks,
Russell

Why not just backup the .conf file. With kernal upgrades is more of a "Do you really need it". 95% of the kernal upgrades are ok.

So...just do a backup before you update. (You are keeping backups aren't you...?)

up2date for apache updates on redhat will just place a new index.html file in /var/www/html after the updated package installs itself. If you have your own index file just make sure to replace the apache index file with your own again after the update.

Thanks... it worked fine..didn't change anything. Now, how about mysql updates? Does this change anything either?

The only thing you have to do is start the server after the update. The update shuts it down
