Networking problem

Ok here's the situation.

Windows xp home edition conected to internet through a dial up modem. System has a network card installed. Cable goes from network card to hub, then another cable from hub to another pc running suse linux 8.0

The win xp machine has sucessfully configured the network card and the linux system has also said it has configured the card. I am unable to access the web through the linux machine. About a month ago I was using linux quite a lot and was able to use the internet using the same method described above. I have since re-installed linux in the machine and am unable to gain net access.

Any tips on trouble shooting this before I pull my hair out.

What kind of hub? Does it have a reset button?

it's a netgear ds104

It doesnt have a reset button.

have you set up the defualt gateway on the linux machine to be the ip address of the xp machine?

can the linux box see the xp box ok?

neither box can see the other.

The biggest problem I am having is that there is so much software in linux that doesnt talk to each other, let alone another system. But we shall blame windows anyway :)

not very scientific but try powering down then up the network hub.

i had this problem once and powering the hub on then off fixed things!
