Linux desktop question, anyone here really use WINE?

I just don't find the need for it. When I first got into Linux I use to play with it a bit, I'd run NoteTab, Netscape (windows version on a shared HD) and MirandaICQ, but it was really nothing more than a novelty.

Anyone here use WINE on a regular basis? What do you use it for?

Ive used it but never with real sucess. I tried it on a chatsoftware I use on occassion. I finally got to where I would boot into windows when I wanted to use it instead of trying to wine with it. I did find that it worked better with RH than Mandrake. This could have been version differences however.

I've used WINE for tiny jobs here and there, but it's not as good as it *could* be. Not like I could do any better...

Take a look at the LindowsOS thread... apparently this OS does what WINE claims to...

I have used it with Cross-over office so that I could use MS office if needed. Which I never do but wanted to give it a try.
Open office is really quite nice.

I do have two apps that I have tried several times to get to work with wine one is my UPS shipping software and the other is a POS and inventory control system. Its like they almost work but not.

I have just installed win4lin.

(Sorry - love to be a purist, but haven't got time to locate all the right software - need Dreamweaver to survive)

Can't comment yet cos I am only 5 minutes into it - but looks good so far:)

Please post back with how it goes. I am most curious about file sharing. Is samba or nfs needed ?
