Problems with SCSI driver when installing *nix

Is there a way I can get around this?

Trying to install *nix to an older HP NetServer 2000.

Nothing seems to like the SCSI card that's in there, except Mandrake/Madriva, which I don't really want to use. Have so far tried Debian and Fedora Core 3 (and 4).

Both bail out thinking there's "No partionable media".

Is there a way I can circumvent the auto install and locate a driver for Debian/Fedora myself? Can I manually shove the driver onto the install CD?

I've never compiled my own OS before, but I guess that's also an option?

You can make a driver disk with the appropriate driver to be used in the Anaconda install (this would require a running system with the same kernel)

Thanks Sean, I'll have a read through.

Sounds like a complicated process, although I know that I can get Mandrake/Mandriva installed, so if I can mix and match the right kernals, might just work....
