Ok, I have given up on getting my onboard video to work on my Dell SC420 and decided after reccomendations, just to buy a new video card. I ask the Linux experts out there:

Any reccomendations for a good quality, extremly low cost video card compatible with Fedora Core 4?

I'm surprised the onboard card didn't work, but sometimes Dell ships some unusual hardware. Most modern video cards are supported in Linux - try looking through the list in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Cards
to get an idea, but any generic/budget video card from the last few years should be fine, or something sure-fire like a cheap ATI Radeon.

ATI and nVidia each produce proprietary drivers for *nix systems, so you might want to take a look at their sites, too.
[ati.com ] (Select Drivers & Software >> Linux)
[nvidia.com ]

There are also open source drivers available for some cards from the DRI Project [dri.freedesktop.org] and Utah-GLX [utah-glx.sourceforge.net] project if you don't wish to use proprietary drivers.

After that it's just deciding how much of a hit your wallet can take.
