Traffic shaping for web traffic

Some people with download managers use too much

Hi folks,

i host some gigabyte of files on a RHE3 box and got a 100 MBit connection.

some downloaders come via universities with download managers, which actually bomb the apache to hell with heavy bandwidth usage for 3-5 minutes... some even try to leech everything and block traffic for more than 1 hour...

I want to do some traffic shaping and have found TC and cbq, which do not tell me much, because the examples found are just for the whole interface and all traffic on one port...

is there any way to limit bandwidth per remote IP on a condition? Like if you go over 5 MBit for more than 30 seconds, i drill you down?

Any hints, help or URLs welcome ;-)

ok, i found something, both for apache2 and for apache 1.3 ... never mind, mod_bandwidth is the right approach!

thanks,
