Can I run from usb f disk

I have a 40Gb external USB Firelite SmartDrive with two 20Gb partitions. If it's possible I'd like to load Knoppix into one of the partitions and be able to run from that external drive instead of partitioning my C drive and installing there. Anybody know if it's possible and, if so, how to do it?
