I have Windows users uploading zip files to a RH Linux server, which are then unpacked, processed and the contents published in an automated fashion (with php).

I unpack these files and check that they are the right format (jpg), but I'd feel better knowing they were scanned first. I'm looking for some basic software for this specific task only, easy to install but also kept updated.

Anybody have any suggestions/reviews/ideas?

ClamAv at www.clamav.net [clamav.net]. Hopefully since it's an outside site, the url will be allowed. If not, google for ClamAv. I'm pretty sure it's the first site up.

I use clamav as well. It has been very good overall. Especially for the price... free. I have had just one zip attachment infected get past it in the past year. This one was caught by the lan users desktop av. Also, I have procmail filter mails that have .scr, .bat, .cmd, .msi and other malicious type attachments before the mails get to clamav... so I am sure that helped prevent some viruses getting through as well.
