For relaxation, I run a few Windows servers here at my home. I've not yet begun the autodidactic process of absorbing Linux, but do have a couple of Linux video servers I use to drive webcams. They're Axis video servers, to be precise.
Hacker maggots are forever attempting to gain access to these video servers. There are a few IPs over in Amsterdam that seem to be making a sport out of trying to get in.
Is there a software-based approach to selectively block IPs from all access to these servers? The only port which should be accessible to the outside world is port 80. A lot of these guys (or gals) are trying to gain access via the FTP ports. (I assume the port numbers are 21 and 22 on Linux, too?)
I have root access to both servers. Though unfamiliar with even the basics of how programs are executed in Linux, I was hoping maybe there was something out there that could be deployed by the likes of a third-grader, such as myself.
Please educate me so that I may be able to ultimately advance onto the fourth grade.
