Hi,

I am using ImageMagick's Perl API to convert some images and pdf files for viewing on the web. I can show png/gif/jpeg, the problem is that ImageMagick is really slow when converting from pdf. I think it uses Ghostscript with a temporary image created by it which is slowing it down a lot.

I also want to be able to handle really big pdf files, 200MB or so, the box has only 1GB of RAM and 1GB of swapspace. I'll see if I can upgrade that.

Support for most popular image formats like jpeg/gif/png/tiff would be nice too. I'd prefer something with a Perl API but a CLI would do too.

Any suggestions for something that would do better than ImageMagick, it's ok if it's not a free tool, I just want it to do its job faster.

PS. I posted in Site Graphics and Multimedia Design [webmasterworld.com] but there are not replies :-(

PDF Tools out of Germany has some very good tools for doing exactly what you want to do. They aren't free, but they work well.
