I've been running a few for a while now... No problems at all. I'd suggest setting up yum for your updates though, and choosing a local mirror rather than the central ones.

With the announced end of life for 9, I'm looking to make the move to Fedora. Any other comments from others currently running it?

the EOL of RH9 is why i've skipped it.

I would use RHEL but i've heard nightmares about it - especially for the costs. I run alot of dual xeons and i've heard kernel hell stories with many issues.

I can't wait for suse 9.1.. i'll have to order it and send some copies to the noc so i can upgrade in the future. Waiting to see if the AMD64 version takes off.

BTW, fedoralegacy.org is supporting RH9 for another year and a half or so.

We've also had success converting RH 7.3/8/9 machines to Fedora directly through yum, ie without CDs or going through the anaconda upgrade utility.

I have an Indiana Jones-style Fedora hat ... that's the only Fedora I use :p

Is it possible to upgrade from Fedora core 1 to Fedora Core 2 and future releases on a hot system?

Like an apt-get dist upgrade or something that can upgrade and reboot in place?

Why not use Debian, it has the smoothest upgrade and apt-get doesn't even require a reboot, unless you update your kernel of course.

White Box Linux (whiteboxlinux dot org) is a derivative of RHEL 3.0, and has been open sourced for your convenience. Easiest Linux install I've ever done.

<edit>And includes GUI config/mgmt tools for those who care about such things.</edit>

Sure, change the numbers in /etc/yum.conf, and run "yum upgrade".
