Why won't the colors match?

in Fireworks and Dreamweaver

For some reason, when I try to match a color in Fireworks that I created in Dreamweaver using Dreamweaver's system color picker, it won't come up the same color. I enter the same RGB values that were created with the Dreamweaver system color picker into the system color picker in Fireworks, but it never comes out the same color.

Any idea what the deal is?

FYI: In Dreamweaver, the arrow that allows you to choose the color mode in the upper right corner of the color chart is working, but in Fireworks, it's grayed out. And Dreamweaver is set to the default color mode: "Color Cubes" and "Snap to Web Safe". Not sure about Fireworks, as I can't click on the arrow to see.

I would try doing this the other way round - The DW colour picker defaults to the web safe palette - this can be turned off by selecting the chevron on the top right in the palette. DW is less sensitive to colour differences than fireworks - as it is not a image editor.

It is odd that the chevron is greyed out - I can only think that you do not have the full version installed. Which version of fireworks are you using 4? MX?

I have tried to simulate a few situations that I thought might be causing the problem but to no avail. Got me a little stumped!

Actually, I just realized that the arrow that allows you to choose the color mode in the upper right corner of the color palette in Fireworks is only grayed out when you are choosing the matte color as you are saving a file. So, I guess the matte color can only be a color that is on the palette.

BTW, when I choose a color that is on the palette for the matte, the color matches the same color in DW.

FYI: I am using the MX version of both software programs

Just had a similar problem. I even used Color Spy to verify the RGB & Hex numbers and still couldn't get it to match up. Finally managed to match it up when I exported my image as WebSnap GIF instead of grayscale GIF or whatever it had been. Have you tried exporting in a different format?

Good luck :)

It was actually because DW's color palette was set to "Snap to Web Safe". So, if the color that I was pointing to did not match any color in the palette, it would try to find the closest color to it. And many times, it did not even come close. It is no longer set to that mode. Thanks, though.
