How would I create an image, either in Photoshop 7 or Fireworks MX, that would look like an article that was ripped out of a newspaper?

  • different shades of brown
  • jagged around the edges
  • etc.

    Do you hve a scanner?

You could scan a selection of newspaper cuttings. then remove the text with the rubberstamp tool. Then choose a font to mimic newsprint - something close to courier might be appropriate.

Flatten the image and apply dust and a texture to your preference.

to finish off you could apply a slight dropshadow to give the impression of the page lifted slightly.

that's one way of doing it :)

If you're as graphically challenged as I am, you might find this blow-by-blow tutorial useful

that was vey nice tutorial - I followed it this savo and go a far better result than using the scan technique. The displacement map curl is the real genius of it.
