Package designing software? Is there such a thing?

I always see these e-download products and usually associated with them are 3D retail boxes with the product name on the front.

Is there a particular program that will "skin" 3D product objects such as boxes, jars, bottles, and other items?

AFAIK AutoCad is the package of choice. Handy for creating exact cutting guides. There are plugins/extras that are designed for Autocad for the packaging industry - There is also another piece of software exclusivley for box shaping and package design but the name illudes me.
