how to make a TTF file

We are working on having our own font. However, I am not sure how we can
create the TTF file to that I can install in on Windows and on Macs.

Any ever done this before?

I think there is some stuff about this on Ray Larabie's site. Search for it in Google.

Lots of font creation software. You want the kind that will create versions for both the mac and the PC. I can't remember any names off hand. I use to use fontographer, but I think macromedia killed it. Just makes sure you get one where you can import vector graphics from programs like Illustrator and Freehand.

I dont know if this applies, but there are plenty of cross platform font conversion utilities out there.

I use CrossFont on windows to convert from Mac to Windows on a windows box.

Are you talking about custom fonts for a Web site?

No, not really..its more for promotional print material and stationery.

I know that Microsoft Windows supports TrueType, "a scalable font technology developed by Apple Computer and adapted to Windows by Microsoft." MS also has an in-depth area of their support site dedicated to TTF. I don't know if it has information regarding portability, but if it is a standard, you would assume...and we all know where that can get us. To create fonts i use Font Creator Program from www.high-logic.com/ but im not sure how it works with mac. You can just copy in scanned images or bitmaps or whatever or draw in the prog itself

Macromedia fontographer is another popular program, kinda outdated though....
I still have no idea how to make a font from scratch

When I wanted to make a specialty font, I started out with an existing font that was somewhat close, typed out the characters (at a very large size) into FreeHand, used the 'trace contour' tool, then manipulated the outlines into my own letters. Then I copy&pasted the vector paths into Fontographer, and saved both Mac and Windows versions.

Worked great... though I suppose if Fontographer has been discontinued, it might be a bit hard to get a licensed copy. You could check ebay, sometimes outdated software titles are still available there.
