Blocky looking graphics in Dreamweaver. Help!

Hey all,
I've built two sites, so I'm very new to this process. The main problem I'm having is making a graphic sharp on the web. I'm using Illustrator and Photoshop with Dreamweaver. I can't seem to import svg items into Dreamweaver. So I save my "home" button, for example, in Illustrator, then save for web, usually as a gif. I just can't seem to make it come out right. I get the color amount right down. I'm using no matte.

Should I not be saving it as a tranparent grahic, and instead try to put a back ground color on it? The navigation bars in both of them look like crap. Can anyone give me a hand? Thanks.

Hello keving
I think what might help you is to create the gif with the background color the same as the background color as what you will be displaying against.. That way you can have the nice edges of the text in the gif instead of trusting that the transparent gif part is going to get the colors really exact and not cut a little of the shading off the edge of a letter making it look blocky.. also i noticed that on one of the sites (that by the way shouldn't have the url in you message as per terms of service) that the gifs are actually larger then what they display on the page, making the browser shrink them into the dimensions that you stated.. that could make them look blocky as well.. internet explorer isn't as good at shrinking images as your graphics program is... Hope this all helps ya some and good luck.

Hi keving and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Looks like your text images aren't anti-aliased. Anti-aliasing will make a huge difference in their appearance, check the export settings. If you make the background transparent, use a similar color (to the background where they'll appear) so they'll blend in.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld. Be sure to read the Terms of Service [webmasterworld.com]. A link to it is located on the bottom of every page.

The terms specify that no url drops are allowed, and no site reviews are allowed. We are perfectly able to deduce that your problem is anti-aliasing- we don't need to see it.

There is a button to the left of your post called "Owner Edit." Clicking it will allow you to edit your post.

There are lots of people here who are happy and eager to help you. This is a great place to hang out. Part of the reason it's a great place is that promotional url drops, flaming, rude behavior, politics, religous discussions, are not allowed. This makes WW a neutral and friendly place.

So please do your part and edit your post to eliminate your url.

Thanks!
