Well I don't know what to say?

First I'd like to thank my mum, my dad and all those who supported me....

No really, thanks to those voted - I never thought the way to a webmasters heart would be a fried Egg :)

Niceone to all the other members who found the time to enter, tough competition, and if I counted right it was a close call.

Next time we do this maybe I'll plumb for more food, or perhaps a few beer icons. A wee pint icon would be fun. Guinness or stella perhaps.

Shame you never got to see my sausage ;)

Cheers

Congrats. Very neat stuff indeed, by all of the entrants.

I am one of those non-creative-types and thus very jealous of the talent. I didn't enter the icon-a-thon because at best I would've produced an unrecognizable fuzzy thing.

Why is it that all of a sudden I have a strange craving for an omelette?

Yep guys! As Limbo said - thanks to everyone who voted! I thought there'd be a little more competition and that my little square faced MS Paint creations wouldn't stand a chance. Congrats to evri1 else aswell!

eggy_ricardo :) ;)

Great icons

I have always thought mini icons were neat - very hard to do (for me and my limited tools) - mind if I ask what was used to create them?

I used Fireworks4. This for me is one of if not the best web image editing tools available. The websafe palette made keeping it to 216 pretty easy. Only you cannot export files as .ico :( so to actually use them you would need Iconsushi (free to download) or another inconographer.

Any program with the ability to set an image to 72ppi and edit single pixels at a time will work for creating the basic image.

In this contest, I believe we had people using Fireworks, Microangelo and MS Paint (and if you can make an icon with THAT, you can do it with almost any software... ;) ).

I like using Iconographer on Macintosh. Icon Forge is available for Windows I believe... both are good if you want a dedicated icon editing program, which is almost necessary if you want to conveniently design high-end icons for your operating system. (OTOH, some of the best Mac System icons I've seen online were created with Apple's resource editor: ResEdit)

If you're just looking to make icons for your website interface, any program that outputs .gif or .png files will work.

If you want to make a favicon for your site, you just need a program that will output .ico files.

..time for another contest?

Good Idea - What though. Its gotta be simple like the last one so i can use my favourite image editing program again - MS Paint.

BTW what happens now with the icons?

..time for another contest?

What about a contest to see the who can script the most useful and inventive code to be placed in the

Custom Code Insert Top?
HTML Code to insert under menu bar at top of page (max 500 chars)
Custom Code Insert Bottom?
HTML Code to insert at bottom of page (max 500 chars)

in the system preferences section

The 500 character limit makes it tough to fit in much but I have adorned my WW skin with extras - top and bottom.

Problem here would be viewing it - I suppose judges would have to paste competitors html and submit to judge?

Just a random thought as I update my footer with a new link

Curious as to this as well. :) Weren't they supposed to go on the Sticky Mail Icons [webmasterworld.com] page?

We are very slow around here PFOnline. :)

When Brett gets some time he will make a decision on adding them. Thanks everyone for the entries.

PFOnline, man i think it would be great if we could use your icons in the sticky messages as well, think they would fit perfectly.
