first of all, I know next to nothing about photoshop. anyway, i'm trying to cut out one piece of an image, and save it to a new file. I used the magic wand tool to select the part I want to cut out, but don't know how to move forward.

p.s. I don't think this is the best board to be asking such basic questions. could you guys point me to a lively place where I could ask such newbie questions? thanks

Select section. Copy (control C or apple C), New (control N or apple N), Paste (control V or apple V), Save as (control shift S or apple shift S).

Nothings to basic for us ;)

You could:
1. have the picture open and another empty window open.
2. Use the selection tool to select the area you want.
3. Drag and drop from the old pic to the new empty window.
4. Save the new pic.
5. close the old pic, but make sure you DON'T save the changes.
6. viola!
