Is it recognised by mayor players/browsers?

I am planning to add some sound (mp3) files to my web page.
I will be using flash and I also would like to have link, to play it in favourite player. So my question is: will most of the user be able to play it?

AFAIK windows media player and real player support it. The browsers will not only the players will. I believe quicktime does not though. As far as winamp and other small players I don't know. I would try it out.

I would think yes.

Isn't m3u the standard playlist document type? Winamp handles m3u and pls files (m3u by default), and I'm fairly certain sonique and xmms do, too. So does musicmatch, and even ipods do, I think.

Fairly safe :)

(Providing its recognised by the browsers as the correct filetype, that is the octet stream or whatever used for downloading or streaming media)

I picked m3u for a project I'm working on because it appeared to be the most cross-platform and most acceptable (to players) playlist extension.
