I am in the process of purchasing a scanner, does anyone recommend a particular brand?

What kind of platform you are using, some budget range, and the intended purpose, could help us in providing relevant answers... A scanner is not just a scanner, for some.

True.
Mostly for web usage; I would like something less then 150$ if possible. I'm currently running Windows 2000.

Call me stingy but I have always used mustek. They are cheap and do what I need them to. I don't do anything over 600 dpi for printing and really only use it for the web. I got my current mustek for $60 US from walmart. The one I had before still runs on my mac. I needed one for my win2k box so I got this one. Lowest model which I got had the moire filters and other things I needed and anything else I do in photoshop.
here are some prices mustekdirect.com/home_scanners.html

I use an Epson Perfection 1200 at work and a Microtek Something-or-Other at home. I think at the low end of the market, there really isn't a vast difference from one to another... just make sure you get a 1 year warranty, and don't spill anything on it. ;)

Nono... that was only a splash to get it warmed up. ;)
But it was a MAJOR pain to open the case and clean the coffee drips off the underside of the glass. I don't recommend it. hehehehe
