Editing an MP3 file for use in Flash

Despite my reservations, a Client wishes to have their site constructed in Flash and use a track from their own album on the index page.

Converting the audio track to MP3 was the easy bit, but there's an eight second section of the track I need to remove completely.

Has anyone had experience with editing MP3 files and if so, can they recommend any easy (and free) packages which will allow me to edit the file as required?!?...

Do a search for Audacity - it's a very nice free audio editing package with lots of associated free plugins.

I've never tried to edit and MP3 (I'm sure it's possible), but if it's not possible you can bring the audio from the CD into Audacity, removing the 8 second piece and save it as an MP3.

You can edit MP3s. I don't know of any free editors off hand but I would think download.com and other shareware sites will have them. I would suggest finding a visual editor so you can see where to clip the track.

Where is the eight second part? Middle, end, beginning? You can set it up in flash to trim ends and beginnings.

The unwanted section was mid-way through the track and was basically an eight second break that the Client wanted rid of.

Many thanks for the recommendation of Audacity - from install to completed MP3 in a matter of minutes!

If you work with audio, or have been working with audio more than you thought you would working on the Web. I highly suggest using SoundForge and/or WaveLab for production. A bit on the costly side but well worth their weight in gold.

There is plenty of software that will edit WAV files thats free. You could edit the WAV file and then export it to an mp3 again.

MP3 trim takes parts off of the end and beginning... It removes digital silence, so if the mid-way part youre trying to trim is that, it should remove it.

Nero Burning Rom has a wav editor in it... Just select the part and press delete.
